Mandate

According to the University and other Tertiary institutions’ Act 2001 as amended. The office of  DVC-AA is mandated to have responsibility over the Academic affairs of the University and in  the absence of the Vice-Chancellor, DVC-AA performs the functions of Vice-Chancellor in addition to performing such other functions that may be delegated to him or her by the Vice Chancellor or assigned by the University Council. This office also ensures University’s performance in terms of the quality indicators set by the National Council for Higher Education and the Ministry of Education. Below is the information regarding the mandate, roles, composition, and members of the committee:

The DVC Academic & Affairs committee is responsible for ensuring that the academic policies and regulations of the University are adhered to and that academic programs are of high quality. It is also responsible for overseeing student affairs and ensuring that students are provided with the necessary support to succeed in their academic pursuits.

Roles
  • Develop and implement academic policies and regulations for the University
  • Ensure that academic programs are of high quality and meet the standards set by regulatory bodies
  • Oversee the admission, registration, and enrollment of students
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of academic programs and make recommendations for improvement
  • Develop and implement policies and programs to support student success
  • Ensure compliance with academic regulations and standards
  • Collaborate with other committees within the University to ensure the effective functioning of academic and student affairs matters.
Compostion

The Office of DVC Academic Affairs is made up of the following members:

  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs): The DVC is the head of the office and is responsible for the overall management and leadership of academic affairs at the university. They work closely with other university administrators, faculty members, and staff to ensure the quality and effectiveness of academic programs.
  • Academic Registrar: The Academic Registrar is responsible for managing academic records, overseeing student admissions and registration, coordinating examination processes, maintaining academic policies and regulations, and issuing academic transcripts and certificates.
  • Director of Academic Programs: This role involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs and curriculum. The Director of Academic Programs works closely with faculty members to ensure the quality and relevance of courses and programs offered by the university.
  • Quality Assurance Officer: The Quality Assurance Officer is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the quality of academic programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, and facilitating continuous improvement in teaching and learning processes.
  • Academic Support Staff: This may include administrative and support staff members who assist in the day-to-day operations of the office. They may handle tasks such as scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, maintaining records, and providing general administrative support.
