The mandate of the Admissions Committee at Busitema University and Affiliated Academic Institutions is to ensure a fair and transparent admissions process that adheres to the guidelines set forth in Section 28 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions' Act 2001 as amended. The committee is responsible for considering all applications and making informed decisions based on the qualifications and potential of the candidates while promoting inclusivity, non-discrimination, and affirmative action.
The roles and responsibilities of the Admissions Committee include:
- Reviewing Applications: The Admissions Committee reviews all applications received and evaluates them based on predetermined criteria such as academic achievements, personal statements, recommendation letters, and any additional documentation provided by the applicants.
- Eligibility Assessment: The committee assesses the eligibility of each applicant, ensuring that they meet the minimum academic requirements and any other specific criteria set for the respective programs of study.
- Affirmative Action Assessment: For applicants from marginalized groups or disadvantaged schools, the committee conducts an affirmative action assessment to determine the extent of support needed. This assessment ensures fair consideration and provides opportunities to individuals facing social or educational challenges.
- Special Talent Evaluation: The committee evaluates applicants with special talents in sports, music, or other social activities to assess their skills and potential contribution to the university community.
- Decision Making: Based on the review and evaluation of applications, the Admissions Committee makes informed decisions regarding the admission of candidates. The Admission Committee is comprised of the following members:
(i) The Deputy Vice Chancellor; who will be the Chairperson of the Committee;
(ii) The Academic Registrar; who will be the Secretary of the Committee;
(iii) All Faculty Deans;
(iv) The University Secretary;
(v) The Dean of Students;
(vi) The University Librarian;
(vii) The Director, Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation;
(viii) Director Quality Assurance.
(ix) The University Bursar.
(x) One External Member of Senate.
(xi) A representative from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
(xii) Two Students Representatives.
(xiii) The Principals of Affiliated Institutions.
(xiv) The Director ICT.
