The Senate is responsible for the organization, control, and direction of academic matters of the University, including teaching, research, and standards of education and research assessment. It is comprised of various members, including the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Deans, representatives of affiliated and constituent colleges, professors and associate professors, university librarian, bursar, dean of students, secretaries, non-academic staff, students, and appointed members.
Busitema Senate is authorized to initiate academic policies, regulate instruction programs, advise on admission qualifications, set academic standards, decide proficiency standards, and report to the University Council. It can also deprive any person of a degree, diploma, certificate, or award obtained through fraud or dishonorable conduct
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chairperson of the Senate, and the Academic Registrar of the University is its Secretary.
