Mandate

The Academic Affairs and Library Committee (AA&LC) is a Senate Committee that serves as the policy-making body for the University Library and is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs (DVC-AA). Its mandate primarily revolves around overseeing and ensuring the quality of academic programs and library services within the university. The committee plays a crucial role in shaping academic policies, managing resources, and promoting continuous improvement.

Roles

The roles and responsibilities of the Academic Affairs and Library Committee include:

  1. Developing and overseeing academic policies and procedures: The committee is responsible for formulating, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures related to academic programs and the library. These policies guide faculty, staff, and students in various academic matters.
  2. Reviewing and approving academic programs and curricula: The committee evaluates proposed academic programs and curricula to ensure they meet the university's standards and objectives. They assess the content, structure, and relevance of courses, majors, minors, and degree programs before granting approval.
  3. Monitoring and assessing the quality of academic programs: The AA&LC continuously monitors the quality and effectiveness of academic programs offered by the university. This includes evaluating teaching methodologies, assessing student performance and outcomes, and identifying areas for improvement.
  4. Managing the library and its resources: The committee is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the university library. This involves ensuring the availability of relevant and up-to-date resources, such as books, journals, electronic databases, and other materials necessary to support teaching, learning, and research.
  5. Providing recommendations for improving academic and library services: Based on their assessments and evaluations, the committee provides recommendations to enhance the academic and library services. These recommendations may include suggestions for curriculum revisions, resource allocation, technology integration, staff development, and other measures to enhance the overall academic experience.
