The Faculty Academic Board is a vital committee responsible for overseeing strategic academic matters specific to our faculty. We play a crucial role in maintaining academic standards, promoting teaching and research excellence, and fostering engagement within our academic community. As an academic committee accountable to the University Academic Board, we strive to uphold the mission and vision of our university.
Strategy, Performance, Quality, and Risk: Endorse the faculty strategic plan in alignment with the university's strategic planning framework. Monitor academic performance against the strategic plan. Identify and address academic risks impacting learning, teaching, and research activities. Ensure principles of diversity and inclusion are integrated into academic frameworks.
Academic Standards: Review and endorse grades for all units owned by the faculty. Make recommendations regarding student exclusions for unsatisfactory academic performance or failure to complete an award within time limits. Recommend the conferring of academic awards in accordance with university policy.
Courses and Curriculum: Approve curriculum developments and discontinuations. Endorse course accreditation and re-accreditation proposals. Approve non-award study opportunities within the faculty.
Learning and Teaching: Oversee learning and teaching activities within the faculty. Ensure quality assurance of teaching-related matters. Monitor and address academic integrity issues.
Research and Research Training: Oversee research activities within the faculty. Ensure quality assurance of research-related matters. Provide recommendations on the admission, supervision, and examination of research higher degree students.
International and Engagement: Oversee engagement and international activities within the faculty. Develop strategies and mechanisms for engagement with students, professional communities, and industries. Receive reports on engagement activities.
Other Matters: Establish faculty committees as necessary to fulfill responsibilities. Consider matters referred by relevant university bodies or members.
- Executive Dean of the faculty (Chair)
- Deputy Dean of the faculty (ex officio)
- Associate deans of the faculty (ex officio)
- Heads of school or equivalent within the faculty (ex officio)
- One elected academic staff member from each school/portfolio
- Two students (one undergraduate and one postgraduate) nominated by the Chair
- At least one sessional academic staff member
- Up to two additional members (at the discretion of the board)
